Subscription tracker for freelancers

Freelance work runs on a stack of paid tools: design apps, writing and AI tools, hosting, domains and storage. Between them they bill in more than one currency, some monthly and some yearly, and new trials keep starting. Subskim puts them all on one renewal calendar, free, with no bank login.

Why do freelancers lose track of subscriptions?

The tools arrive one at a time and bill on their own schedules, so nothing shows them all together.

A client project needs a design seat, a new AI tool starts with a free trial, and a domain and a storage plan renew once a year. Some charge a card, some go through PayPal or an app store, and some bill in another currency. Each charge is small on its own, a yearly renewal comes around long after you signed up, and a tool you needed for one project keeps billing after the project ends.

How does Subskim track my tools?

You add each tool once, by hand or from a screenshot of a billing page, and Subskim puts every charge on the day it renews.

A screenshot import adds several subscriptions at once, up to 50 imports a month. Your tools then sit in a renewal calendar, a list and a dashboard, with monthly and yearly totals, so you can see what charges this week and what the whole stack costs in a year.

Not sure yet what you pay for? How to find all your subscriptions covers app stores, PayPal, card statements and your inbox.

Can I track tools I pay for in other currencies?

Yes. Each subscription keeps the currency it bills in, and your monthly and yearly totals are converted into your main currency.

A design tool billed in US dollars and hosting billed in euros add up to one monthly total instead of two lists you convert by hand. Your main currency can be USD, EUR, GBP, GEL, RUB, CAD, AUD or JPY.

How to track subscriptions in multiple currencies explains which amount to record and why your card charges a slightly different amount.

How do I catch trials and yearly renewals?

Add a trial when you start it, and Subskim flags it with the date it converts to a paid plan and the price it will charge.

Yearly plans sit on the same calendar as monthly ones, so a domain or an annual seat shows up on the day it renews instead of as a surprise on a statement.

Reminders by email and push are not live yet. Until they are, the free trial reminder works out the last day to cancel and adds it to your own calendar. If a tool offers a discount for paying yearly, monthly vs yearly subscriptions shows how to work out whether it pays off.

Example: a $99.99 yearly plan that renews in October.

How do I keep business and personal subscriptions apart?

Pay for business tools from a card or account you use only for the business, and note which subscriptions are business, personal or mixed.

Sign up for business tools with your business email so invoices arrive in one place, and keep every invoice and receipt. Subskim has no tax or accounting features. It shows what you pay for and what it costs a month and a year, but your invoices and statements are the records that count.

Are subscriptions tax deductible for freelancers? covers what the IRS and HMRC say, how to split a tool you also use personally and which records to keep.

How do I cut tools I don't use?

Review them once a month: the Skim walks through each subscription so you can keep, downgrade, cancel or decide later.

For a first pass over a stack that has grown for years, the subscription audit goes through it step by step. When you decide to cancel, the cancel guides cover 200 services, and the cancellation email template writes the email when there is no cancel button.

What Subskim does not do

  • No bank connection. Subskim does not link to your bank or find subscriptions on its own. You add them by hand or from a screenshot.
  • No canceling for you. You cancel with each service. The cancel guides show where.
  • No reminders yet. Reminders by email and push before each charge are coming next.
  • No tax or accounting features. There is no export for bookkeeping or a tax return, so keep your invoices and receipts.

Questions

Is Subskim free?

Yes. Every feature is included, and you never need a card to sign up.

Do I need to link a bank account?

No. You add subscriptions by hand or import a screenshot of a billing page. Subskim never asks for bank logins or card numbers.

Does it work outside the US?

Is there a mobile app?

Not yet. Subskim is a web app today, and iOS and Android apps are on the way.
