How to cancel a Proton subscription

You can cancel a paid Proton subscription anytime from your account settings at account.proton.me. Canceling switches the account to the Proton Free plan.

How do I cancel Proton?

  1. 1Go to account.proton.me, sign in, and select any Proton service.
  2. 2Open Settings (the gear icon), then All settings.
  3. 3Select Subscription, scroll down to Cancel subscription, and click Continue.
  4. 4Click Cancel subscription again to confirm.

What happens after I cancel?

  • Your plan stays active until the end of the current billing period, then the account moves to Proton Free and the plan does not renew. Proton says it is still moving all users to this behavior.
  • If the account is over the Free plan limits, some features may stop working. For example, with more than 1 GB of Mail storage you can't send or receive new email until you free up space or upgrade again.
  • Canceling does not delete your Proton Account. Deleting it is a separate process.
