How to cancel The Athletic

How you cancel The Athletic depends on who bills you. A subscription billed by The Athletic is canceled in The Athletic's account settings, and canceling a New York Times subscription does not cancel it.

How do I cancel The Athletic?

  1. 1Sign in and open The Athletic account settings at nytimes.com/athletic/settings.
  2. 2Select Cancel Subscription.
  3. 3Follow the instructions to cancel.
  4. 4If your subscription is billed by The New York Times instead, go to your account, select Subscription Overview, then select Cancel your Subscription in the Manage Subscription section.
  5. 5To cancel through Customer Care instead, select Contact Customer Care at the bottom of the help article to chat with a Care Advocate, or call 866-273-3612 in the U.S.

Billed through an app store or partner?

If you bought the subscription through a third party, such as the Apple App Store, Google Play or a partner bundle, cancel it with that third party. The New York Times can't cancel or refund those subscriptions for you.

What happens after I cancel?

  • Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, and you keep access until then. If you cancel during a free trial, it takes effect right away.
  • Subscription fees are generally nonrefundable, so you get no refund or credit for the time left in the period.
  • Without a subscription that includes The Athletic, you only get limited coverage.
